Welcome again to our studies on the New Life. It is such a privilege for me to keep sharing with you and guiding you to grow your roots downwards so you can grow your life upwards in fruitfulness and faithfulness. The central principle in the Christian life is that God has done all that needs to be done to save you, both as an event and a process that leads to ending your life\’s journey well, on one side. And you are now responsible for making it count, on the other side, by committing to follow Jesus in all things henceforth.

Nothing surpasses the Word of God in the Economy of God
Today, let\’s look at the Centrality of the Word of God. Why is this framed like this? It is to show that everything in the Kingdom of God that you are now in, revolves around, serves and answers to the Word of God. During the cosmic catastrophe in Genesis 1, God began the change (redemptive, transformational) process by speaking (The Word of God). The entire spectrum of creation was by God\’s Word. Hence, both in creation and New Creation, the Word of God is the defining principle that establishes the Will of God, restrains satanic encroachment and restores the beauty and sanity of mankind.
If you come to John chapter 1, you will see it again in the New Testament that nothing is beyond the governing power of the Word of God. We also see that Jesus is the embodiment of the Word of God. We see that the Word of God in the flesh produces a life of glory and victory. \”4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.\” John 1:4-5
The WORD in the flesh (that is the Word at work in man) produces LIFE and LIFE releases LIGHT which subdues darkness. This is the principle of dominion in the New Creation. All the utensils of the New Life such as prayer, fellowship, etc are only as potent and effective as the Word of God that has become LIFE (or flesh) in you.
Everything submits to the authority of the WORD of God at work in your life. The Spirit of God has never and will never work contrary to the Word of God (By this, we don\’t mean our understanding of the Word of God that always has room for improvement). Hence, the Word of God is the divine insurance set up to safeguard you and me from the excesses that the devil can easily sneak into spiritual activities and experiences, both in your private life and the public sphere of the church life. This safeguard is not an embarrassment to the Spirit of God, it is only a reference point for us to know and judge (discern) what the Holy Spirit is truly doing and what He is not.

The New Life is Renewed and Replenished by the Word of God
Although Jesus said, you are the light of the world, your measure of light is determined by your measure of life, which is the amount of God\’s Word that has become your experience. This is why Jesus said in Matthew 4:4. \”But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.\” How clear can God be? What gives you life is the Word of God you hear, believe and obey.
You may be physically alive because you have bread (food or any physically sustaining material like a career, wealth, or opportunities). But what it takes to be spiritually alive is to hear \”every word that proceeds out from the mouth of God. That speaks of intimacy. This is hearing the mind of God concerning you as you read the Word of God. \”…the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.\” John 6:63

The New Life blossoms in the whole counsel of God
27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. 32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.
Acts 20 (KJV)
This is where I want you to have a burden for the various churches and denominations. There are so many weaknesses and struggles because the Word of God is overpackaged, misunderstood or even rejected. Jesus scolded the Pharisees and teachers of the law for preferring the traditions of men over the Word of God (Mark 7:8). In fact the term used was \”laying aside the commandment of God…\”. So, wherever any aspect of the Word of God, especially those clear commands and non-negotiables of Scriptures, are laid aside, the people in these systems will not be able to receive the flow of life of the Vine, leading to pervasive weakness. Join me to pray that the LORD Jesus will build His Church.
If you will blossom and live the New Life with greater ease, due to the unhindered flow of the supply of Christ to you, you MUST make a resolution to open up your life to all the counsel of God. \”Everything God says is for me\”. That\’s the attitude of those who will follow the LORD till the end. Others may say No to some things that Jesus says Yes to and Yes to some things that Jesus says No to; as for you, you are on the LORD\’s side.
Paul was able to commend the Ephesian elders, and by extension the Church, to the Word of God\’s Grace because they embraced all the counsel of God. It is clear why many are breaking down in their faith. Any aspect of God\’s Word you reject becomes a stumbling block to you. Three things the Word of God will do in your life here are as follows:
- You are numbered among the sanctified.
- You are built up – growing in grace (obedience) and graces (service)
- You will receive the end of your faith, the reason for your salvation, and the inheritance prepared for you before the world began.
We will end today\’s study with a beautiful revelation of the power and impact of God\’s Word to make you fixed and secured in the New Life:
2Pe 1:16 We were not retelling some masterfully crafted legend when we informed you of the power and appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, for we saw his magnificence and splendor unveiled before our very eyes.
2Pe 1:17 Yes, Father God lavished upon him radiant glory and honor when his distinct voice spoke out of the realm of majestic glory, endorsing him with these words: This is my cherished Son, marked by my love. All my delight is found in him!
2Pe 1:18 And we ourselves heard that voice resound from the heavens while we were with him on the holy mountain.
2Pe 1:19 And so we have been given the prophetic word—the written message of the prophets, made more reliable and fully validated by the confirming voice of God on the Mount of Transfiguration. And you will continue to do well if you stay focused on it. For this prophetic message is like a piercing light shining in a gloomy place until the dawning of a new day, when the Morning Star rises in your hearts.
2Pe 1:20 You must understand this at the outset: Interpretation of scriptural prophecy requires the Holy Spirit, for it does not originate from someone’s own imagination.
2Pe 1:21 No true prophecy comes from human initiative but is inspired by the moving of the Holy Spirit upon those who spoke the message that came from God.
